The first legs of the cup semi-finals took place mid-week, with Basque sides Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad both winning, Muniain the scorer as the former beat Granada 1-0, and an Oyarzabal penalty and strike by Odegaard giving the latter a 2-1 victory over second division Mirandés. Both ties are still in the balance though.

Barcelona closed to within a point of leaders Real Madrid after they won 2-1 against Getafe on Saturday, Griezmann and Sergi Roberto scoring for the Catalans, and Angel for the visitors. As it happens Angel is one of several candidates to replace the injured Dembélé / Luis Suárez, Barça looking to take advantage of the rule allowing them to sign outside of the transfer window in the case of long-term injuries.
