They left it late, but Spain made sure of their place in next summer’s European finals after a 1-1 draw in Sweden. Local keeper Olsen had to save from Fabián, Rodri and Gerard Moreno early on, but after that the Scandinavians were on top, with De Gea (who left the field injured later on) having to keep out Quaison, Forsberg and Berg. Some four minutes in to the second half Berg headed the opener, and it looked like Spain were heading for their first qualifying round defeat in six years before substitute Rodrigo deflected a Fabián shot into the net in injury time. Roberto Moreno’s team are now sure of one of the top two spots, and with two home games to come they will be looking to clock up enough points to ensure one of the top seed positions for the finals.
