Maximum points for Spain in their qualifying group after a 3-1 victory over Scotland in their last match. The Scots needed to win to qualify for the play-off spots, but within six minutes Spain were ahead, David Silva finishing off after debutant Jordi Alba crossed in from the left. Fletcher and Morrison went close in reply, but later in the first half Villa and Cazorla could have added to the lead before Silva scored again after picking up a return pass from Pedro. Less than ten minutes after the restart Villa added a third after Silva set him up, his 50th for his country, and although substitute Goodwille got one back from the penalty spot after Valdés fouled MacKiel-Smith in the area, Llorente, Cazorla and Pedro all had chances to beat McGregor again before the final whistle.
