The third round of the Spanish cup took place mid-week, the last before first division teams enter the competition. As always at this stage, ties were played over one leg, with the lower ranked sides and the second division A sides kept apart. Of the three teams from the regional third division, only Sant Andreu made it through, Kuku popping up in extra time to give Barcelona based club a 1-0 win over Calahorra. Multivera and Lorca FC were knocked out though by regional second division B teams Villanovense and Cultural Leonesa respectively, and Racing Santander and Melilla also qualified. All will be paired against top flight clubs playing in the European competitions in tomorrow’s draw. Of the 2A sides, Sporting Gijon scraped through on penalties against Rayo Majadahonda thanks to two saves in the shoot-out by Spanish under 21 keeper Dani Martín, and Córdoba, Cádiz, Lugo and Almeria will also be in the fourth round draw together with Mallorca, who were given a bye for this round.
