The Spanish cup kicked off this week, with 36 lower ranked teams playing first round ties over one leg. Of the four sides relegated from the second division A last season, Mallorca were given a bye, Mirandés came from behind to win 1-2 at Peña Sport, and Elche beat Badalona on penalties, but UCAM Murcia were knocked out by Cartagena. Three third division teams also qualified for the next round, Calahorra, Durango and Antequera, with a fourth, Tarazona, due to play Formentera next week (the winner of that tie has been given a pass through to the third round). The other 17 winners go through to the second round together with Mallorca and the six second division B sides who were also given a first round bye. Second division A teams will enter the competition at this stage as well, although they are kept separate in the draw from the regional sides. (30.08.17)
