Another title for Barcelona, a 2-0 win over Porto giving them the European Super Cup for the second time in three years. The match was tight though until five minutes before the break, when Guarín played the ball towards his own goal only for Messi to pick it up and round Helton to score. Valdés had to save from Guarín after the restart, but the Portuguese side had Rolando sent off for a second bookable offence later on. With two minutes to go substitute Fàbregas controlled a chipped pass from Messi before steering a shot past the keeper, and Porto ended the game with nine men after Guarín was also shown a red card for a hard tackle on Mascherano.
