Villa. Struck first time volley into top corner after Cannavaro cleared.
A spectacular volley from
David Villa gave Spain a 1-0 win over world champions Italy in their last
friendly before the Euro 2008 squad is named. Luis Aragonés put out a
line-up similar to the one he is expected to start with in the summer, with his
four play-makers in midfield and Fernando Torres up front.
Spain were lucky not to go
behind however when Luca Toni had an early headed goal ruled out for a dubious
offside. Silva, Xavi and Senna went close after that though, and Buffon had to
keep out efforts from Fernando Torres and Cesc before the interval.
Italy came close to scoring
after the break, Camoranesi hitting the bar and then bringing a good save out
of Casillas. But with twelve minutes to go half time substitute Villa smashed a
first time shot past Buffon after Cannavaro headed clear Iniesta's cross to
keep up Spain's 18 month unbeaten record. |
