A disappointing result for
Spain in this friendly international in Cádiz, Luis Aragonés's
new look side losing 0-1 to Romania. The coach gave first caps to Angel, Javi
Navarro and David Silva in his starting line up, with Lopo on the bench and
Arizmendi called up for the first time but unable to play due to an injury. Two
of Silva's Valencia team mates, Villa and Morientes, were up front, and the
best chances before the break fell to the three of them. Silva was the first to
try his luck with a long shot which Coman caught at the second attempt, and
Villa did likewise midway through the first half. And Morientes brought another
good save out of the keeper with a header from Silva's cross before Marica
tested Casillas for the first time on a quick breakaway just before the
interval.
Aragonés changed his
two defensive midfielders at the break, bringing on the more physical Senna and
Oubiña for ball players Alnoso and Cesc, but things didn't improve. And
with just under an hour gone Marica picked up a pass from the middle of the
park to run on and fire a low shot through the legs of Antonio López
wide of Casillas. Villa fired a free kick over the bar soon afterwards, and
Silva brought the best save of the night out of Coman after López and
Villa combined to set him up. But Casillas had to be on his toes to keep out a
dipping free kick from Chivu later on, and with Spain not showing any more
ideas and Aragonés not bothering to make any more changes, the
disappointed fans started to boo their own side. |
