Barcelona cruised through to
the final of the Club World Cup after a 4-0 win over América de
México. All concerns about jet-lag following the long trip to Japan were
dissipated when Gudjohnsen finished off a team passing move involving Iniesta,
Deco and a clever Ronaldinho back heel in the tenth minute. And Márquez
headed home Deco's corner for the second on the half hour mark, the Mexican
defender clearly delighted to have scored against his old rivals.
There was some concern
before the match about the presence of Piojo López in the Mexican line
up, the man known as Van Gaal's nightmare, but the ex Valencia striker only
troubled Valdés defence once early on with a possible penalty claim
which Colombian referee Oscar Ruiz turned down.
A brilliant Ronaldinho made
it three after the restart, curling a shot into the top corner of the net after
Giuly's shot was blocked, and then set up Deco for the fourth, laying the ball
back for the Portuguese midfielder to bend a shot inside the post. But the best
was yet to come, Ronaldinho delighting the crowd again with a magical run which
finished with a chip against the crossbar in the closing minutes. Frank
Rijkaard's side will play Internacional de Porto Alegre in Sunday's final.
