A good warm up match for
Spain prior to their crucial Euro 2004 qualifier against Ukraine next
Wednesday, Iñaki Sáez's side steamrollering their hosts 0-3. The
manager gave a first run out to Fernando Torres and Reyes at full international
level, the former starting the game and the latter coming on at the break.
Etxeberría put the visitors ahead early on after good work by Baraja and
Vicente, and Baraja could have increased the lead when his free kick hit the
post later in the half. As usual both managers made several changes at the
break, and two of the new men Joaquín (who threw off an injury to play)
and Diego Tristán added two more later on. Ukraine's draw with Northern
Ireland means Spain are well placed to finish second in their group, although
the victory by leaders Greece in Armenia means they will probably have to play
a tricky qualifying round later this year. |
